CTWN Code
of Conduct
This code applies to members as well as all participants in Network events in person and online.

The Network
-
Promotes equality for women in theater
-
Advocates for women theater artists across disciplines
-
Promotes achievements and supports members’ work
-
Provides opportunities to network with colleagues and to exchange resources, information and skills.

Our love of theater has brought us together from a variety of backgrounds, careers, and levels of experience. It is important for us to remember that our actions reflect on the organization, its members, and the theater profession. Membership in the CT Theater Women Network is a privilege. The Network expects members and guests to adhere to the following at all events and gatherings.

-
Collegiality is expected within the Network. Members and guests must treat their colleagues with professional and personal respect, courtesy, and integrity.
-
While networking is a valuable and enjoyable part of our organization, personal aggrandizing is not appreciated at meetings and activities, and the harassment of any members or guests in an attempt to gain financial or professional support will not be tolerated.
-
Complimentary tickets or merchandise are intended for use only by members and their guests (if any). Complimentary tickets/items not used by a member should be returned to the Network and cannot be gifted to third parties or sold. Asking for more — whether tickets, merchandise, or anything else — is discouraged unless offered.
-
A member must adhere to the policies of the individual theaters or other spaces where we meet with respect to the use of cell phones and other mobile devices, cameras, or other recording/photographic devices, smoking, and bringing in food or drink. Members should be aware that the various performing unions (AEA, SDC among them) forbid the use of recording or image-taking devices during performances (including curtain calls) unless expressly authorized in advance.
-
Members should be discreet in discussing productions or performances in public spaces before, after, and during performances. Members should respect the reticence of colleagues who prefer not to discuss their reactions.
-
Members must be sensitive to issues of racism, sexism, homophobia, diversity, and under-represented populations.
-
Members should respect the reputation of the Network and not invoke its name or their membership to intimidate, coerce, or establish their bona fides.
-
Members recognize that their postings on social media — often done in an instant — can reflect upon their professional status and reputation and also on the status and reputation of the Network.
-
Members should recognize that failure to abide by this agreement may jeopardize the Network’s relationship with media representatives, event hosts, the theater community, and others who offer the Network services or hospitality. It also compromises our reputation, both individually and as an organization.

If you witness or experience behavior that violates the values and expectations outlined above, please alert a member of the Network’s Board of Directors. We will take action to protect our community, with consequences up to and including removal from Network membership and activities.

Anyone attending a Network event in person or online is subject to this Code of Conduct.
